Nilgiri Buttercup is a perennial herb, 1-2 ft. high; rootstock stout, horizontal, densely fibrous. Stem is branched, faintly ribbed, softly hairy, generally 1-2-flowered. Bottom leaves are long leaf-stalked; blade 2.5-7 x 2-5.5 cm, thick, broadly ovate or round, rounded, flat or heart-shaped at base, coarsely rounded toothed, sparsely to densely bristly; leaf-stalks densely bristly; stem leaves narrow, linear-lanceshaped, bracteiform. Flowers are about 2.5 cm in diameter, yellow. Petals are 10-13, ovate-oblong, twice as long as patulous sepal-cup. Seedpods are borne in spherical head, oblong, turgid, minutely dotted, beak straight. Nilgiri Buttercup is found growing on grassy slopes at 1600-2400 m, in Western Ghats of Peninsular India, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Rajasthan. Flowering: March-November.
